Me and My Supervisor
In this workshop, doctoral candidates will focus on the importance and the complexity of the doctoral supervisory relationship. The workshops will cover three main aspects:
- active design of the supervisory relationship
- navigating hierarchies
- effective communication
Participants in the workshop will be introduced to strategies for establishing and maintaining a productive relationship with their supervisors. They will learn how to navigate the sometimes challenging relationship with their supervisor, address problems professionally, and build positive interactions. Advice is given on the basic structure of the supervisory relationship in Germany.

Dr. Mariam Fishere is a counselor, trainer, and researcher with a PhD in psychology. She moved to Germany in the year 2017 to pursue her career ambitions. Being an international student for a few years and then now working in Germany, she has collected quite a lot of experiences related to cross-cultural communications, especially in professional settings. Dr. Fishere has great interest in working with students with the goal to accompany them during certain parts of their journeys. Her goal is to support the students she meets in finding resources to cope with different situations, and to build their resilience along their professional journeys. Dr. Fishere is now pursuing her postdoctoral studies in psychology at the Charité University in Berlin.
