PhD Navigator – A Guide Through the German Academic System
Doing a PhD in Germany brings lots of challenges – the most important one is to understand the German Academic System and the workflow of a PhD-project. This training explains the hidden rules of German academia and provides detailed insights in rules, formalities, time-lines, tasks and pitfalls of a PhD-project. Having a good overview of the upcoming milestones from the start of research until handing-in the doctoral thesis and related expectations provides clarity. Being aware of networking and career opportunities in the German academic system is another asset of this workshop. Understanding academic communication and institutional working culture supports a better integration in the host institute. A reflective view about communication, relationships and expectations with supervisors, colleagues and other co-workers supports a better understanding of how to get the support needed.
